TAVERN TOWN
(Chris Richards)

Danny punched out at 4, I get off at 5
He’ll pick me up, and we’ll head to Broughton Drive
Pull on the circuit we’ve been drivin’ since our teens
Talkin’ ‘bout places that we’d go when we were free

A right on 3rd, and then it’s up North Avenue
Keep it under 30, Dan, the cops are watching you
Pull in the drive-thru, we don’t know a single car
We know they’re out here, but God knows where they are

So tonight, we’ll go ridin’ ‘round this tavern town again
Searchin’ for signs of life, lookin’ for our friends
Out to the fingers of the farthest city lights
We might turn back, but we just might
Tonight

Dan’s phone is buzzin’, and he reads me one out loud
It says, “We’re down by the Quarry where the Shinabeck girl drowned”
But all we find there’s cans and Camels in the sand
And echoes of engines floating ‘cross the pastureland

So tonight, we’ll go ridin’ ‘round this tavern town again
Searchin’ for signs of life, lookin’ for our friends
Out to the fingers of the farthest city lights
We might turn back, but we just might
Tonight, tonight

How does anybody make it here
Makin’ wages in the 2nd Tier?
Do we sit and watch it rust into the ground?
C’mon, Danny, let’s go one more lap around

And tonight, we’ll go ridin’ ‘round this tavern town again
Searchin’ for signs of life, lookin’ for our friends
Out to the fingers of the farthest city lights
We might turn back, but we just might
Tonight
And tonight, we’ll go ridin’ ‘round this tavern town again
Searchin’ for signs of life, lookin’ for our friends
Out to the fingers of the farthest city lights
We might turn back, but we just might
Tonight, tonight
